PSA Grower Training

We have extended the registration deadline for the Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training until 2/4! This PSA Grower Training on Wednesday, February 14th in Franklin, TN in conjunction with the Pick TN Conference, but it will be held off-site to reduce the cost of the training.

When: Wednesday, February 14th, 9 AM to 5 PM Central Time

Where: Williamson Co. Extension Office, Franklin, TN

Register: The cost is $50 per person and includes the required PSA Grower Manual ($50 value), a Certificate of Course attendance from AFDO ($35 value), as well as lunch. This course is funded in part by a grant from the FDA and TDA.

This is a GREAT way to get your TAEP educational requirements fulfilled in one fell swoop! The PSA Grower Training satisfies part of the TAEP educational requirement for the Fruit and Vegetable Sector, as does the Pick TN Conference.

The PSA Grower Training is currently the only official FDA-recognized produce safety training to help growers implement Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and understand their responsibilities under the Federal regulations. Whether you have a farm fully covered by the law or a small, exempt farm and you’re just looking for information, this training is for you. (For guidance as to whether you are exempt or not, watch this short, 7-minute video from the U of MN that guides you through the basics of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule and helps you figure out how the rule applies to your farm.)

The PSA Grower Training Course satisfies the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement outlined in § 112.22(c) that requires ‘At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.’

At this workshop, you will learn about:

Worker health and hygiene

Soil amendments

Wildlife, domesticated animals and land use

Agricultural water (production and postharvest water)

Postharvest handling and sanitation

How to develop a farm food safety plan
