Practicing Collective Economics in the Food System: The Ujamaa Bartering Market, Saturday, December 6, 2:00 PM
Mak Harmon is a farmer, land steward, and activist rooted in East Tennessee, committed to restoring food sovereignty and rematriating stolen land. With a background in agroecology, urban agriculture, and mutual aid organizing, they approach the care of land, plants, animals, and people through a lens of justice, reciprocity, and collective liberation. As a member of the Rooted East Knoxville Collective, they lead the Home Garden Program—a growing network of over 50 home gardeners working to dismantle food apartheid and reimagine food systems grounded in abundance and autonomy. Through their work with Rooted East, Mak weaves together emancipatory pedagogy with transformative land stewardship and food cultivation practices to reclaim our foodways and return power to the people.
