Nancy Matsumoto is an award-winning independent writer and editor specializing in agroecology, food sovereignty, food, drink, and Japanese American culture and history. She is the author of Reaping What She Sows: How Women Are Rebuilding Our Broken Food System (Melville House, 2025). Her reporting has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Time, Newsweek, The Atlantic, People, Food & Wine, Saveur, the Los Angeles Times, Civil Eats, NPR, and The Globe and Mail. She co-authored the James Beard Award–winning Exploring the World of Japanese Craft Sake (2022), and her translation of her grandparents' tanka poetry, By the Shore of Lake Michigan (2024), received a 2025 American Book Award.
